Why Hire me?

I am Scott Crookes and I set up SDC Marine Services to provide specialist marine consultancy to the offshore industry. I’ve worked at sea since leaving school, working my way up from Deck Cadet to Captain. While I’ve served on many different types of vessels, I have vast experience on Offshore Support Vessels worldwide.

With 22 years in the offshore industry, I have gained a reputation for being committed, pragmatic and highly professional. I am especially well-known for my clear report writing and communication skills. In what is a high-risk industry my high standards and professionalism are non-negotiable - my track record speaks for itself.

Since I stopped sailing I’ve become an experienced Tow Master moving Mobile Offshore Drilling Units on six continents. I’ve also worked extensively as a Client Representative, Marine Warranty Surveyor and as an auditor and inspector.

My Specialist Qualifications


I’m a Master Mariner with a UK Class 1 CoC (Unlimited) All relevant STCW certification is up to date. I am a warranty-approved Tow Master for semi-submersible drilling units. I am an Accredited Vessel Inspector (AVI) for the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) Common Marine Inspection Document Scheme (CMID)

DONG Energy has approved me to carry out their bespoke In-Survey audits of vessels prior to being taken on hire.

I hold a Dynamic Positioning (Unlimited) Certificate from the Nautical Institute with over 4500 hours experience gained on cable installation and repair vessels, ROV support, Geotechnical drilling vessels and PSV’s.

I have a Diploma in Yacht and Small Craft Surveying issued by the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) with specialisation in GRP and FRP vessels, wood vessels, yacht and small craft systems and valuations.

A Master Mariner with wide-ranging international command experience.
Previous projects Include:
  • Master on a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) in the Persian Gulf supplying rigs in Qatar’s North Field.
  • Master of the UK Coastguard chartered Emergency Towing Vessel (ETV) Anglian Princess providing salvage cover for the Western Approaches.
  • Master on anchor handler performing jacket and topsides installations for Statoil’s South Pars development in Iran.
  • Master on an AHTS towing rock barges on the Western Australia coast from Fremantle to the environmentally sensitive Gorgon Project on Barrow Island.
